Abstract
The 21st century is an era of rapid information development, where the application of the internet in education has become a trend, or even an educational investment. Many scholars believe that the use of the internet in education can enhance students' learning outcomes, while its impact on students' cognitive abilities has also emerged as a focal point in educational research. This study is based on the follow-up survey of the China Education Panel Survey (CEPS 2014-2015) data provided by Renmin University of China. Using multiple linear regression as the research method, it explores the impact of internet usage time on students' cognitive abilities. The findings reveal a significant and robust negative effect of weekly internet usage time on the development of students' cognitive abilities, suggesting that educators should guide students in reasonably allocating their online time in educational practice. It also highlights the importance of cultivating healthy internet usage habits among students.
