Abstract
Digital technology has reshaped the era-specific features of farmers’ entrepreneurship, but research on the long-term mechanisms by which digital technology affects farmers’ entrepreneurial behavior remains insufficient. This paper constructs a theoretical analysis framework for farmers’ entrepreneurship and conducts empirical tests using four waves of CFPS data from 2016 to 2022. The findings show that digital technology use has a significant positive effect on farmers’ decisions to start businesses across different time spans. The result remains robust after addressing endogeneity and performing a series of robustness checks. Therefore, to stimulate rural entrepreneurial potential, China should adopt a long-term perspective, actively align digital technology provision with farmers’ practical needs, and improve farmers’ accessibility to science and technology.
