Abstract
This study investigates how data elements influence Rural Industrial Integration (RII). Using a random forest algorithm, we assess the development status of both data elements and RII across 30 provinces in China covering the period 2013-2023. A spatial Durbin model incorporating an economic-geographic distance weight matrix is then established for empirical investigation. The findings reveal four key points: First, data elements exert a significant facilitative influence on RII within local areas and also produce favorable spatial spillover impacts on adjacent regions. Second, the mechanism through which data elements elevate RII involves strengthening technological innovation and mitigating the misallocation of labor and capital factors. Third, human capital demonstrates a single-threshold characteristic in this relationship, whereby the promotional impact becomes more pronounced once the threshold is surpassed. Fourth, spatial heterogeneity exists: eastern areas display more evident spatial spillover effects, whereas central and western areas show stronger direct impacts but comparatively weaker spillover effects.
